Hotel Royal Zurich
An old-school Zurich three-star with a brass revolving door and fair rates in an unfair city — dated in places, dignified throughout.
The Character
The revolving door and panelled lobby set a mid-century tone the rooms mostly keep — parquet, solid furniture, and windows that actually open onto the university quarter.
The Stay
Our room was compact but immaculate, with a surprisingly good bed and bathroom taps older than the reviewer. Breakfast is simple and honest; the tram stop outside reaches the whole city.
What Works
- Central location near the university and old town
- Immaculate housekeeping in a vintage frame
- Rates rare for central Zurich
What Doesn't
- Bathrooms overdue for renovation
- No air conditioning on warm nights

For the price, yes.
ibis budget Zurich Airport
“An airport overnight reduced to the essentials. Compact and basic, but coherent and practical for travellers who need a simple stay close to Zurich Airport.”
Maldron Hotel Parnell Square Dublin City
“Maldron's northside Dublin formula — new-build efficiency at the top of O'Connell Street, where two clean rooms and a fast check-in beat character on a one-night brief.”
The Cityview — Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong
“Kowloon practicality with a social conscience — the YMCA-run Cityview trades glamour for space, calm and rates Hong Kong rarely offers.”
